Dr. Joanne Vecchione was raised in a small town in southeastern Pennsylvania, the middle child in a family of eight. Her family includes two sisters and five brothers. She currently lives on a small farm near Green Lane, Pennsylvania with her four horses, Doberman, Jack Russel and multiple barn cats.
Dr. Vecchione pursued her Bachelors degree in Biology at Chestnut Hill College, in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania and then went on to obtain a Masters degree in Biology from Villanova. Dr. Vecchione took all the knowledge and skills she had previously mastered and moved on to the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed her veterinary education.
Throughout her nearly thirty years of work in the veterinary arena, Dr. Vecchione has gained experience in many widely varied aspects of the field. Not only did she work as a dog and cat groomer, but she also worked in a small animal clinic, earning her way from technician to hospital management. Additionally, she held research positions at a primate facility as well as within the University of Pennsylvania’s Sections of Small and Large Animal Surgery. While in graduate school, she found time to manage a barn of show hunters and jumpers.
Professional interests include management of the sport horse, lameness evaluation and reproductive management of the broodmare. Dr. Vecchione feels fortunate to be part of an excellent practice with outstanding coworkers and awesome patients!
On a personal note, Dr. Vecchione enjoys every facet of endurance riding. When she isn’t riding competitively, she contributes her veterinary skills or supports friends by crewing.
Dr. Vecchione has an avid interest in art, particularly creating charcoal drawings. She enjoys many outdoor activities, including downhill skiing, hiking and camping. Storytelling around the campfire is her specialty.
